About Me.
Welcome to Milk + Honey Physical Therapy! I am Mona Shakibai, a doctor of physical therapy who specializes in wellness, prevention, and education. I work with professionals and active adults who want to live their lives to the fullest, without pain, injury, or dysfunction. My health care journey began at the young age of 6, when I was first exposed to the world of physical therapy, and healthcare in general. I had a pediatric condition called Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, that affected my hip and left me immobilized in a body cast for four months. My memory of this time was not of pain or discomfort, but rather of fascination with the ability of the human body to repair itself. It was during my college years that it became clear to me that the path forward was through physical therapy. During my 8 years in this profession, I have seen thousands of patients with various diseases, disorders, surgeries, and dysfunctions, and have continually leaned towards the thought of, "if people only knew what I knew, this could have been prevented." It is not always the case that a condition could be prevented, but many aspects of the human body work off of principles of mobility, function, and musculoskeletal health, that if applied in a timely fashion, could prevent many ailments and pains experienced by so many.   I have always had a vision of the future of this profession in a light similar to dentistry, where as the body of knowledge expands, so should the quality of the general public's health. For example, the majority of people know to brush and floss for a healthy smile, and see their dentist a few times a year for check-ups and occasional necessary treatments. How wonderful if the same was applied for the human body's musculoskeletal system. In the same grain, I always encourage my patients to treat their home exercise program as important as brushing and flossing. Our body is our primary home, and it is a privilege for me to help you keep your foundation in good condition!
